RESTORING DIGNITY
TO THE FIELD OF MENTAL HEALTH

For more than 50 years, the Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR) has protected individuals around the world from abusive and coercive practices in the field of mental health.

Mobilizing for People’s Protection.

CCHR deploys high-impact traveling exhibits across four continents to expose the many abuses of the psychiatric industry. Over the last four years alone, CCHR enlightened another person every 20 seconds, ultimately exposing more than 50 million individuals to the horrors of psychiatry.

Eradicating Psychiatric Abuse in the Name of Human Rights.

CCHR has been working for decades to close a glaring gap in the European Convention on Human Rights, a seminal document signed after World War II, that led to involuntary commitment of patients and the spread of coercive psychiatry.
After years of reporting on psychiatric abuse in a total of 18 nations, CCHR received a formal invitation to a first-ever UN Consultation on Human Rights in Mental Health. CCHR presented expert testimony, vehemently calling for a ban on “coercion and the deprivations of liberty in mental health.” When the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights put the mental health mandate before the UN Human Rights Council, the result heralded a sea change to preserve and protect human rights in the field of mental health.
The UN officially decreed:
“Coercive and involuntary treatment are outdated, ineffective and incompatible with human rights.”
“All nations should cancel forced institutionalization.”
“All nations should end involuntary treatment.”
“The creation of new psychiatric hospitals is prohibited.”
JAPAN

Exposing Psychiatry in the Land of the Rising Sun.

In a land where psychiatrists hid their crimes behind the proverb “See no evil, hear no evil and speak no evil,” Yuzuru Ogura shattered the silence and exposed their secrets. He uncovered the scam of “polypharma”—suicide-inducing overprescription of psychotropic drugs. Yuzuru secured severe penalties against the practice, ultimately helping reduce nationwide suicide rates by 34 percent. Subsequently, Yuzuru exposed criminal abuse in psychiatric hospitals, invoking laws protecting patients and whistle-blowers and guaranteeing psychiatric abuse will forever be seen, heard and spoken of in Japan.
By Japanese law, any patient abuse uncovered in psychiatric hospitals must be reported immediately.

BRINGING HUMAN RIGHTS
TO LIFE

The Church of Scientology has long championed the cause of freedom for all. To that end, it sponsors one of the world’s most far-reaching human rights education and public information initiatives, United for Human Rights, and, for young people, Youth for Human Rights.

Human Rights Education on a Global Scale.

In the last four years, United for Human Rights and Youth for Human Rights marked milestones, having now educated more than 41 million about their inalienable rights.

SECURING
RELIGIOUS FREEDOM

Since the establishment of the first Church of Scientology in 1954, the religion has grown to millions of members worldwide. While the Church continues to earn religious recognition in nation after nation, it also continues the fight for religious freedom on behalf of all religions.
PANAMA

Individual Responsibility Transforms a Country.

After ascending the Scientology Bridge to Total Freedom, Giselle Lima was inspired to take greater responsibility for her adopted homeland of Panama. Consequently, she brought the Church’s humanitarian campaigns across the country. Moreover, Giselle not only established the nation’s first Scientology Mission, opening wide the entrance gates to the Bridge for all, but she also secured full religious recognition and tax exemption for Scientology in the Republic of Panama.

EXPANDING INTO THE FUTURE

From a monumental past four years to a glorious and boundless future, the following is just a sampling of Church expansion to come across the width and breadth of the Scientology world.
UNITED KINGDOM

New United Kingdom
Staff Enhancement Center.

The United Kingdom’s spiritual headquarters now has a brand-new staff enhancement center. The built-from-the-ground-up facility provides religious counseling and training for the ever-growing ecclesiastical ministry for the UK.
The new center’s lower ground floor is reserved for the Hubbard Guidance Center, where Saint Hill staff receive Scientology spiritual counseling. The building also contains a Staff College comprising six course rooms to accommodate training for more than 150 at any given time.
DENMARK

Europe’s Home Away from Home.

The new Nordland religious retreat in Copenhagen, Denmark, was created expressly to serve the growing number of Europeans traveling to the Advanced Organization and Saint Hill Europe for religious services.
The Nordland provides every amenity for visiting Scientologists, including a buffet-style restaurant and a café offering service throughout the day for those on breaks from Scientology counseling or training.
SOUTH AFRICA

Expanding the Narconon Network.

A new Continental Narconon for Africa will soon open to rescue drug addicts and train rehabilitation specialists for future African Narconon centers. The facility stands at the foot of the Magaliesberg Mountains amid a breathtaking 520-acre former game reserve—complete with some 180 African wildlife.
Right from its grand Reception, every detail of Narconon Africa is designed to provide a tranquil, stress-free environment for people freeing themselves from the grip of drug and alcohol addiction.
FRANCE

Standing for Liberty in Paris.

In Paris, cultural epicenter and among the most iconic and influential cities in the world, a stunning upcoming Ideal Church of Scientology and Celebrity Centre is on a countdown for Grand Opening. The 93,000-square-foot building is an architectural tour de force and prominent in the extreme—overlooking one of the nation’s busiest thoroughfares and standing just mere blocks from the Stade de France  (National Stadium).
Among the facility’s striking architectural features are its gleaming glass exterior, comprising more than 1,500 reflective panes, and a modern geometric wood portal—all to welcome Parisians to the extraordinary adventure of true spiritual liberté.
Rising six stories above Reception is the building’s stunning grand atrium. The design was inspired by the sequoia, including the circular stairwell lined with an intricate leaf pattern.
So yes,
we’re extending our help everywhere,
because no matter the problem,
our help is a given.
We’ll always be there
to better the world.
