March 28 - Expansion for Scientology in South Africa

The Church of Scientology has acquired the famous Johannesburg landmark, the Kyalami Castle, to be the home of its new advanced spiritual retreat.


January 25 - Scientology Volunteer Ministers Leave Behind a Legacy of Help

After almost a year and a half of service to the people of Botswana, stationed primarily in Gaborone, the Scientology Volunteer Ministers (VMs) say their farewells. Rounding out the first leg of their Southern Africa tour, they are proceeding now to Namibia.


For six hours straight despite the overwhelming smoke the Volunteer Ministers helped fight the fire.

October 7 - Scientology Volunteer Ministers Africa Goodwill Tour — Helping the Firefighters of Gaborone

The fire that broke out in a city dump in Gaborone, Botswana, could have had serious consequences, but thanks to the Scientology Volunteer Ministers and their help to the local fire department, tragedy was completely averted.

June 22 - The Newest Scientology Mission in South Africa; Chartwell

Chartwell, an up and coming suburb of Johannesburg, South Africa is home to one of the newest Scientology Missions in the country.


June 21 - East Wave Radio Teams Up with Drug-Free Marshals to Tackle Drug Education in South Africa

Drug-Free Marshals and East Wave FM teamed up and visited some of the primary school in Lenasia, South Africa. Their purpose was to provide a message about the life-ruining dangers of drugs and to hand out information fliers about the effects of drugs like dagga (cannabis), cocaine, mandrax (a synthetic drug that is highly addictive), alcohol, heroin and ecstasy.

June 1 - Youth for Human Rights International - Ghana Human Rights Tour

The Executive Director of Youth for Human Rights International, Tim Bowles, has returned to Ghana to spearhead broad implementation of human rights education in the country.


In Pandamatenga, villagers reported to be turning their backs on local bars and making a bee line for the yellow hut.  Village Councillor Tenganyano Tuelo says a former village bar has even closed down and is being refurbished into a fresh produce (shop).<br>

As reported this week in the Botswana Sunday Standard, the Scientology Volunteer Ministers African Goodwill Tour is making a real difference to the people of Botswana.


The Scientology Volunteer Ministers Goodwill Tour, currently headquartered in Maun, Botswana, continue to work with government, civic and community leaders to make the technology of <nobr>L. Ron Hubbard</nobr> broadly available.

The Volunteer Ministers of Port Elizabeth, South Africa kicked off their 2006 activities with a seminar where they decided to bring the Volunteer Ministers tent to towns throughout the Eastern Cape Province, from Knysna to Plettenberg Bay, Bathurst, Graaf-Reine, Koega,  Motherwell, Summerstrand and Walmer.

February 28 - Johannesburg's Newest Scientology Mission

Over 100 public were in attendance for the grand opening of Johannesburg, South Africa's newest Scientology Mission located in the northern suburb of Chartwell. The ribbon was cut by the Mission executives and staff, community leaders and the regional Police Commissioner who has come to know the Church through its effective Anti-Drug campaigns.

February 17 - Scientology Volunteer Ministers, Helping Emergency Crews Battle Cape Town Fire

A team of Scientology Volunteer Ministers from Cape Town, South Africa were among the volunteers who rushed to Table Mountain on Thursday, January 26th, 2006. Fire had broken out at 4:00 pm and within an hour gale-force winds had caused it to spread over a vast area, requiring the city to mobilize all available resources from 27 metropolitan fire stations in addition to the Air Force fire-bombing helicopters.

November 14 - Volunteer Ministers Goodwill Tour in Botswana

Botswana has one of the world's highest economic growth rates, a stable government and a reputation for working to resolve conflicts that have plagued neighboring states. But it also suffers from one of the lowest life expectancies on earth, with over a third of the population infected with HIV/AIDS.

August 2 - Scientology Human Rights Youth Education Program Presented at "Panafest" in Africa

To the beat of drums and the music of a Ghanaian dance troupe performing human rights themes, the Church of Scientology International brought its human rights program for youth to African leaders during a special presentation at Panafest 2005, a six-day Pan-African festival.

May 29 - Rwandan Genocide Survivor Commends Human Rights Education Effort

Teens in dozens of countries who work with Youth for Human Rights International, an educational program adopted by the Church of Scientology International, were publicly honored at a special service at the Church of Scientology of New York last weekend.
